⩎ THE HEAD CENTER

This cozy cove is dedicated to the Head Center in Human Design. Tools, experiments + lecture notes to help orient yourself.

⩎ THE HEAD CENTER

I try to visualize the Head Center like a tranquil desert. However, my Undefined Head Center has operated more like a junkyard my whole life. I've absorbed and amplified the pressure to think about questions that have nothing to do with my life. I've taken in inspiration, "best practices," and other ideas that my Sacral never actually responded to. Over time, my mind became a real mess. I felt burdened by the weight of everything I didn't know. In the name of "staying informed" and being a Mercury dominant person, I would take in A LOT of information about random things and collect loads of books and notes. Clutter, clutter, clutter.

When I slowly began stepping into my Experiment, I started giving myself permission to not engage with every thought. Do I really want to be figuring this out right now? If my body did not respond, I let it go. Ideas and inspirations are now just tumbleweeds that roll across my mental desert. I let them pass without grabbing onto them. If there actually was something for me to do relating to these ideas, I trust that my Inner Authority will lead me to the correct time and correct action. I don't need to fret over it.

For a Defined Head Center, I can only speak from observing two loved ones who both have the Channel of Abstraction (47-64). You can see that their wheels are always turning, which naturally puts pressure on others in their environment to take in ideas the way they do. In this case, the keynotes of this channel involve "making sense of things by reflecting on past experiences." I used to feel that I had to join them in this kind of questioning, but now I can simply allow them to follow their process and selectively choose to engage only when my Inner Authority responds.

ORIENTATION ⦙ basic mechanics

In the traditional Chakra system, the Head Center in Human Design is associated with the Crown Chakra. It is a pressure center that fuels our thinking process and only contains three gates: Gate 64, Gate 61, and Gate 63.

According to the Living Your Design Manual, only 30% of the population has a Defined Head Center while the remaining 70% has an Undefined Head Center. That means 70% of the world is conditioned and told how to think and what to think about.

EXPERIMENT: What are you exposing your mind to? Now that we know many of our thoughts stem from information stored in the brain’s gray matter, experiment with exposing yourself only to inspiration or ideas that your Inner Authority leads you to. Does the mind feel more relaxed? More aligned with your True Self?

DECONDTIONING ⦙ changing the script

Following your Strategy and Authority is ultimately what deconditions all of your centers. However, it can be helpful to become aware of exactly how you’ve been conditioned in each center. It also helps to make your mind an ally in this process by reframing much of its language. Below are some lecture notes and tools I’ve collected for both Undefined and Defined Head Centers.

Here’s a short frequency-based sound meditation I often return to. Try listening before reading, or as you read, to help the words take deeper root.

REPROGRAMMING ⟩ Undefined Head Center

You have spent your life trying to make sense of the past, doubting the future, or thinking about what is knowable; even when none of it has anything to do with your life. You are busy with questions all the time, carrying everybody else’s concerns and feeling a constant “we have to figure this out” pressure, even though you may actually resent those very questions and feel trapped by them. You are not here to solve what does not truly matter to you. You are not responsible for finding the solutions to all the world’s problems. You are here to assess and critique the inspiration of others, gaining wisdom into which questions or ideas are even worth considering. Free your mind from this burden and allow it to be spacious and honest.

MY NEW SCRIPT:

▴ I don’t take on the pressure of other people’s worries or questions.

▴ I enjoy the pressure to know more without becoming identified with it.

▴ I trust answers will emerge for me if they are meant to.

▴ I enjoy all the ways my mind can take in inspiration.

▴ Doubt and confusion are natural states and are allowed to exist without fixing.

▴ My Inner Authority will sort out which questions or ideas are truly correct for me.

TOOLKIT:

⧴ EFT Tapping: You can pair each line of the script above with the EFT Tapping protocol to layer in somatic work as you rewire your mind's inner narrative.

⧴ Journal Purge: Whether digital or analog, get those questions and concerns out of you, then let go. You can also develop a PKM system if you want to collect, mind map, and organize your thoughts over time (see the Defined Head Center Toolkit below).

⧴ Pineal Gland Kriya: This is a 20-25 Kundalini Yoga Kriya that helps to open up and release stagnant energy in the Crown Chakra/Head Center.

⧴ Frequency-Based Sound Meditation: For an Undefined Head, grounding or lower frequencies may be more supportive for releasing mental pressure, while higher frequencies like 963 Hz (like the clip above) can amplify inspiration.

⧴ Information Fast: This is something I’ve been experimenting with lately. Before Human Design, I would fear boredom and keep myself mentally busy (with research, news, inspiration, etc.) even when my body was asking for a break. When I started listening to my Sacral Response, it was astounding how much spaciousness emerged in my mind. I found more energy to be creative and present.

REPROGRAMMING ⟩ Defined Head Center

You constantly generate inspiration in your environment and put others under pressure to think. You naturally possess a specific way of thinking, whether that shows up as sudden insights (Channel 61-24), doubt and answers (Channel 63-4), or confusion and resolution around the past (Channel 64-47), and this creates an ongoing mental pressure to understand what your inspiration is about. You cannot stop thinking, and you are not meant to. However, your inspiration is not here to make you act or do; it is here to be reviewed, observed, and mentally processed. Do not rush into immediate action. If you befriend the sensations of doubt and confusion and embrace the sweetness of divine timing in expressing yourself, you will see how wonderful your unique thinking process can truly be.

MY NEW SCRIPT:

▴ My mind is designed to think.

▴ Inspiration moves in its own timing.

▴ Confusion is part of the process.

▴ I do not rush clarity.

▴ I let ideas mature internally.

▴ Thinking does not require action.

TOOLKIT:

⧴ Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) System: Having a dedicated space and method for capturing your ideas and thoughts can be an excellent way to regulate the pressure of the Head Center. I personally use Obsidian as my PKM tool, but Notion and Evernote are also popular “second brain” apps for managing ideas.

⧴ Voice Notes: Some people prefer speaking their thoughts out loud, which can help you realize how “not ready” you are to share your concepts. Expression and manifestation take place in the Throat Center, and often we mistake the pressure of the Mind as a sign that we are ready to share. It all comes down to divine timing. In the meantime, you can give yourself space to talk out loud without involving other people.

⧴ Craniosacral Still Points: A somatic tool that quiets head pressure through nervous system regulation. Although it is correct for you to always be thinking, sometimes holding the pressure of doubt or confusion can be a lot to live with everyday. This is when simple somatic practices like this one can come in handy.

FINAL NOTE ⦙ freeing the mind for its true purpose

As the Living Your Design Manual reminds us, we can “enjoy the intellect and use the mind for what it is truly intended.” Your mind is a powerful processor of information and can act as an outer authority for others, especially when you’re not relying on it to make personal decisions. By freeing it from the burden of having to resolve everything, you create space for tremendous creativity to emerge and for inspiration to flow naturally.
