FLOW WITH THE FUTURE: 2027 Shift ⋗ LOCK #1
What Will Humanity's Spirit Be Along the Way?
This series is designed to extract practical information we can absorb and carry with us as these trends move fully into 2027. Rather than finding ourselves caught off guard, jaw dropped, wondering what on earth is happening, the hope is that by knowing where we're headed, we can move with the Global Cycle's flow with far less resistance.
If you have no idea what I'm referring to, please check out my post on the 2027 Shift, or check out this 10 Minute 2027 Shift Video from the wonderful Dr. Archers. Or, if you don't need to know the details and just want to know what one of the new trends will be, continue below.
The Lock: Gate 25
There are 8 Global Locks in the Human Design system. Each Lock asks a specific question that shapes humanity's experience for a given 400-year or so cycle.
🔒 Lock Gate 25 asks: What will humanity's spirit be along the way?
In this fading Global Cycle of the Cross of Planning (1615-2027), this question has been answered by the key of Gate 37. To be more specific, since 1958, it has been in Line 1:
🗝️ Line 1 - Gate 37.1 - THE PARENT
A position of inherent respect that ensures a focus for the development of guidelines.
♀︎▲ Harmony is the key to the successful maintenance of relationships. It is only through harmony that the beauty and the values of the family can endure. Friendship that is rooted in sensitivity and ensures harmony. No polarity.
On 15 February 2027, entering the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix, the key will shift to Gate 55 (Line 6):
🗝️ Line 6 - Gate 55.6 - SELFISHNESS
♄▲ Acquisition obsession that though alienating, is still indirectly beneficial materially to others. The possibility of finding the spirit through materialism.
☽▽ Where the material abundance exists, but no one gets to share its light. The 'no Moon' phase. The possibility that materialism becomes obsessive with a 'mean' spirit that will not share.
☞ In short: Humanity's spirit will shift from emotional tribal bargains and group support to the individual endeavor of finding spirit, meaning, and abundance on the material plane.

Gratitude for What Gate 37 Gave Us
Before we can welcome what is coming, it may serve us to pause and honor what has been. For approximately 400 years, Gate 37 has shaped the background frequency of our shared human spirit. Those who carry Gate 37 in their BodyGraph will continue to live out these energies personally, but the collective resonance that once amplified and validated those themes is shifting. It may behoove us to consciously release the expectations tied to this gate, since it is all we have collectively known.
What to honor with gratitude as we release:
- The warmth of family gatherings: potlucks, holiday tables, aunts and uncles and cousins spilling into every room.
- Traditions passed down through generations, the rituals that told us this is who we are.
- The neighbor who showed up with a casserole when someone passed. The friend who just knew to call.
- The sense of belonging that came from sitting in the same pew, cheering for the same team, voting for the same values.
- Organized religion and the church as a place where people found community, comfort, and shared meaning.
- The nuclear family and extended family as the central unit of emotional and material support.
- Pension funds and the promise that loyalty to an institution would be honored; that if you showed up, you'd be taken care of.
- Charitable organizations and the collective impulse to pool resources for those in need.
- The emotional agreements, spoken and unspoken, that kept the peace and held the tribe together.
- The spirit of "we take care of our own."

Welcoming Gate 55's Energy
Gate 55 brings a profoundly different spirit. Where Gate 37 was oriented outward (toward the tribe, the institution, the bargain) Gate 55 turns inward, toward mood, passion, beauty, and a direct personal relationship with the spirit of life itself.
The spirit along the way becomes: "I must feel my own spirit."
What to lean into:
- Letting yourself cry.
- Letting yourself be moved by beauty hidden in the mundane and material: patterns in nature, the fortune of money coming in "just in time," finding the exact thing you needed at a thrift store.
- Listening to music; paying attention to notes and tones and how they foment certain feelings inside of you.
- Honoring your moods and honoring other people's moodiness. Letting that experience of the emotional wave become something that builds a new kind of camaraderie amongst us.
- Seeing the true utility of beauty, meaning, and slowing down to be present.
- Letting yourself feel joy.
- Carrying a spirit that is no longer about bargains or emotional support tethered to an unconscious expectation for a return, but simply: being moved.
- Finding your own direct relationship with God, not through a church, a doctrine, or a shared creed, but through a sunrise, a piece of music, a moment that stops you in your tracks.
- Releasing the need to have your emotional experience witnessed or validated by the tribe. Finding that your inner life is enough and complete on its own.

Compare + Contrast
Gate 37 → Gate 55
These are not predictions, but rather potential real-life examples based on the gate information.
On obligation vs. mood:
37: You attend the family Thanksgiving even though you are not in the mood because Aunt so-and-so will be upset and you need to keep the family peace. 55: You cancel or decline the invitation altogether because you are not in the mood. Or, you go... but not because you feel obligated to, because you feel it will lift your spirit.
On emotional tone:
37: A spirit of emotional need. 55: A spirit of emotional passion.
On institutional reliance:
37: Expecting the institution you are loyal to to provide you the promised resources. 55: Moving beyond institutional reliance, being more focused on your direct connection to Life itself.
On how we gain the material:
37: Networking, creating tribal bargains that promise loyalty, incentives, and material benefit. 55: Wanting to find the spirit in the mundane, in the material, in the use of money. Caring about the emotional and spiritual value of things, not having things just to have things.
On what makes the spirit nervous:
37: Your spirit may be nervous about traditional roles and friendships. 55: Your spirit may be nervous about emptiness, about not finding the things or person to fill one's cup.
On how we show up for each other:
37: Humanity's spirit expressed through touch, hugs and kisses, giving each other food (potlucks, cookies for the neighbor), asking how your vacation went. 55: Humanity's spirit expressed through music, acoustics, the tone of how something is said rather than what is said. Being romantic about life, or deeply melancholic about it, needing to be alone.
On physical presence:
37: Being face to face with someone, shaking their hand. 55: Being side by side with someone, marveling at something of beauty or meaning.
On support:
37: I support you by offering my emotional support and affirmation. 55: I lean into my fluctuating moods, am real about them, and thereby empower you to do the same.
On collective identity:
37: Standing under the same banner of a religion, sports team, political party, or institution. 55: A preoccupation with what moves your spirit individually. You don't like things just to gain social acceptance.
On love:
37: Let me support you with my love. 55: Let me empower you with my love.
On God and spirit:
37: Spirit is something you believe in, housed in a building, upheld by doctrine, and accessed through membership in an institution. Groups gather to build temples. 55: You discover that YOU are the temple, and God was never waiting behind a locked door or a Sunday service. He meets you exactly where you are, in the middle of your mess, your mood, your mundane Tuesday. You find Him in the ache of a melody, in the light through the trees, in the stillness after a good cry.
Final Thoughts
One thing that is very nerve wracking about this particular Lock + Key is it consists of one of two gates (the other being Gate 40) that make up the bedrock of our entire modern, civilized system. When it comes to the material world (how we get our food, shelter, care), I have no idea what new shape that will take with Gate 55.6. The 37 is inherently material because it points to the Ego/Willpower Center and all Tribal gates deal with support and resources. The 55 does not, yet its sixth line deals with the materialism. How does, exactly, the material world look through the lens of the individual, emotional energy?
Many Human Design promoters online delineate these keynotes to mean that the collective will become more entrepreneurial and independent in spirit, and that sounds fun IF there is still an ecosystem of rules, laws, and structure to support such an environment. Much like the planets teach us archetypally: Jupiter's jovial expansion becomes detrimental or unproductive without the structure and discipline of Saturn to ground it. Freedom without a framework rarely holds. Will we build off of the foundation of the Cross of Planning, or leap into something else entirely?
Your guess is as good as mine.
